Bathroom design ideas :: Little details

Sometimes it's the little details that make a room...

I have been looking for ideas to add some interest to my small bathroom design. With the high cost of refurbishing a bathroom I am quite keen to introduce some ideas with cheaper recycled elements.
For those like me that live in a warmer climate and do not have a radiator in their bathroom, an old ladder can easily be used to throw those bathroom towels over.
Vessels can also make lovely additions to any bathroom design with a variety of uses. Instead of buying a new vase an old milk bottle, cup or jug can make a lovely vase.

Similarly, decorative side tables and wicker baskets can and an extra dimension and additional storage to any bathroom design. Have fun.

The most important piece of office furniture are office chairs. This is very important due to the fact that this is a chair that is most used by employees. These chairs are designed to provide only an option that users session, but slowly and steadily producers found that the appearance and features are both very important to impress clients.

Proff EarChair

The EarChair is all about creating a space within a space and epitomizes Dutch company Prooff penchant for designing furniture that encourages "intimate dialogue for public space," . Apart from the expressive minimalism and the path-breaking form factor, the Chair will offer stimulation to any given environment. The upholstered mammoth lounge prooff earchair is available in a plethora of sizes and though Prooff doesn't use any complex techniques it still manages to look fairly ceremonial. The chairs are available in a number of shades and fabric choices and according to Prooff that diverse fabrics "allow for every room to take on its own personal character."

Feather Tree Obsession

A classic feather tree.
I want one.
You can decorate it however you want,
and for all seasons.
Colors, especially pastels, look fabulous on this tree.
A country theme of paper doves and a pail receptacle.
Silver balls decorate a silver tinsel feather tree.
I love this  tree sitting in an urn with a huge blue bow.
Cute idea for a buffet table:
Hang pizzelle candy cones from
a feather tree's branches.

Not a feather tree but I might put mine
inside a champagne bucket like this!
This is a variation on feather trees in colors.
Martha Stewart sets up
a feather tree display dripping in icicles.
It looks gorgeous!
Feather trees are Martha's favorite.
Martha sells a feather tree through Macys, pictured above.
I think its $60 for a 24" tree.
I found my 24" Martha Stewart feather tree on Ebay!
It will be here within one to two weeks....yippee!
Enough time for me to enjoy it.
It comes with the Martha Stewart ornaments too.
I only paid $15 for it, so that was a score.
I think the picture was a bad one so no one bid on it,
because there was another one that was going over $55
and there were 10 hours left on the bidding.
So if you want a feather tree,
or even vintage bottle brush trees like these,
hit Ebay and look closely..
you might just get lucky too.

The Chrysanthemum Experiment - Results

This year I've been experimenting with my chrysanthemums. I have some little yellow ones which I've been growing for years now. Every year I leave the old plants till early spring, and then take cuttings from the new growth. That's what all the books tell you to do, saying that the old plants will never produce such good blooms in subsequent years. Was it true? This year I decided to try it out.

If you click here, you'll find the posts I wrote in March (when I took the cuttings) and May (when they'd taken and it was time to "stop" all them in order to convince them to put out side shoots). But I've reproduced the photos to show you the main stages. I took cuttings, but didn't throw the old plants away. Instead I planted the cuttings in the same container, in between the older ones.

Why? well firstly to fill the gaps left by a couple that had died over the winter. But also to ensure that the soil, water, light and fertiliser conditions were identical for both sets of plants. As any primary school child will tell you, an experiment is only a "fair test" if one variable, and one only had been changed. In this case the variable was old plants vs cuttings. Everything else was identical.

Back in May, the new plants looked pretty puny in comparison with the old. But by the time autumn arrived, I could only remember which was which by going back to the spring photos to check.

By October they were covered in buds. Whichever won, it was going to be a good year. And, when the buds opened, it was immediately clear that...

... there was no difference at all. Both sets of plants are full of flowers, the flowers are all of the same size, and I can see no difference of any kind.

So will I be taking cuttings next year? Yes, certainly. But to increase the number of plants I have, not to replace the old ones. From now on, my chrysanths can go on for as long as they feel like it...
